Chesed - Loving Kindness

Chesed is a member-to-member network where, by doing acts of loving kindness, we help those in our Mishkan Torah community who are experiencing life's challenges.

We are building an emotionally safe, caring environment where we can both shareour needs and actively support and help each other in times of need, within the constraints imposed by the capacity of our Community.

We help in four categories: transportation to and from Mishkan Torah for services and events as well as to local medical appointments, meals after unexpected life challenges, friendly visits/phone calls, and bereavement support with the Funeral Practices committee.

Our Funeral Practices Team is coordinated by Risa Lapidow.

In addition to our team coordinators, our steering committee includes Daya Solomon, Maureen Callanan, Rachel Glick and Rachel White. Linda Spevack and Rabbi Saul Oresky are ex-officio members of the committee as well.

Beyond the Chesed services set forth above, our volunteers have offered additional services such as help with computers, shopping, errands, carpentry, lawn mowing and snow shoveling, to name just a few.  A full list of these services can be found on our Chesed Community Bulletin Board.

Additional services for transportation, meals and other needs of our disabled, ill and elderly communities, are provided by the state of Maryland as well as local counties and communities.  Information about these services can be found in our Chesed County Resource Guides for Prince George’s County , Montgomery County, and Howard County.

If you have a specific need, or any kind of personal or family crisis, please call on us.  We are here to help. You can contact Rabbi Saul or Phyllis Oresky,  Chair of Chesed, at Chesed@mishkantorah.org.
