On March 9, the New Klezmer Quintet will help us celebrate the final discharge of Mishkan Torah's roof loan. You will not want to miss this special occasion. The New Klezmer Quintet last appeared at Mishkan Torah in October 2011 and had the audience literally dancing in the aisles with its toe tapping renditions of its take on traditional festive Eastern European Klezmer Music. In the 2011 concert, the Quintet demonstrated its Fusion style, which takes the vocabulary of the traditional Klezmer music of the Eastern Euorpean shtetl and merges it with such disparate styles as bluegrass, middle eastern, and rock. In the upcoming concert, the Quintet plans to take a more traditional approach.
The founder of the band is drummer Brian Choper, the son of long time Mishkan Torah members Jordan and Eva Choper. The band also features celebrated violinist Alan Oresky, the brother of Mishkan Torah member Saul Oresky. Other members of the band include pianist Charles Jablow, clarinetist Fred Jacobowitz, electric guitarist Chris Huntington, bassist Ephriam Wolfolk, and vocalist Laurie Riggins.
The festivities are scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets for the concert are $25 for adults if purchased before March 8 and $28 at the door. Tickets for teens and children are $15. Reservations may be made online using the reservation from that appears below or by contacting the Mishkan Torah office. You may pay in advance online using the google checkout form at the bottom of the page or by sending a check to the Mishkan Torah office. (If you have questions about the online forms, please send an email to internet@MishkanTorah.org.) Donations are, of course, greatly appreciatated and will be listed in the Program Book as multiples of chai.
So start your spring early by coming to celebrate the last of the roof loan and hear some marvelous music. See you at the concert!
